Sometimes life can be difficult and we find ourselves "stuck." Sometimes we have experienced frightening, or traumatic things in our lives, things that have happened to us or someone we love, or our community. When these kinds of things happen, we may find it difficult to "get over them" quickly. In fact, we may feel the effects of these experiences for many years, even for the rest of our lives if we don't take steps to "Start Moving-on." Sometimes we don't even notice the effects right after the experience happens. Years later we may begin having thoughts, nightmares, and other disturbing symptoms. We may even develop symptoms and not even remember the thing or things that once happened.
For many years, these types of things that happened to people were overlooked as possible causes for frightening, distressing, and sometimes disabling emotional symptoms such as; substance abuse, misuse of medications, depression, anxiety, phobias, delusions, flashbacks and being out-of-touch with reality. In recent years, many researchers and healthcare providers have been convinced of the connection between traumatic events and these symptoms.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), from an Attachment based view, with resourcing, and psychiatric services, if needed, have been found to be effective treatment modalities for those who suffer from any of these and other symptoms.
